ALETHEIA DEVOTIONAL: TOWARD KNOWLEDGE
DATE: July3, 2017
TOPIC: KNOW THE TRUTH
TEXT: John8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Truth is from the greek word ALETHEIA meaning what is true in things appertaining to God and the duties of man, moral and religious truth. I want you to understand that to every individual, what he knew is the truth but this text is telling us that of all things that you know, there is a need to go to the level of knowing the truth about God and all that pertains to him; His righteousness, faith, obedience, blessing and covenant.
The subject matter ‘TRUTH’ is not just a word we should come by but what must be known. Meaning that it’s not all who claim to know this truth that truly know it. To know comes from the Greek word ‘GINOSKO’ meaning to understand, perceive, and to have a knowledge of something. And from the Greek word ‘EPIGNOSIS’ meaning to have a complete knowledge of something.
The knowing of the truth give freedom from the Greek word ‘ELEUTHEROUS’ meaning not a slave or not under restraint. You wonder if you are in bondage. This freedom is relevant to what Apst. Paul was talking about in Col.1:13 ‘Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son’. A freedom from the grief of hell.
John8:32 can now be paraphrase as ” and you shall come to the complete knowledge of the true things appertaining to God and the duties of man, moral and religious truth and these truth that you are having its complete knowledge will deliver you from the kingdom of darkness and translated into the kingdom of Jesus.
